The hopeless state of adult ad networks.

Recently, I have been looking for better ways to monetize AwfulPorn. The traffic to the site has been steadily growing and my hope is that it will gain a decent income source to make the time spent on it a little more worthwhile.

Unlike most review sites, the whole concept of the site is to tell people not to sign up for the porn sites it reviews.  It does have a “good porn” section where I recommend a few great sites, but since the good porn section is not the focus of the site, it will never get me very many referrals.

I decided to explore some ad networks.  The one I signed up for in particular had a lot of great reviews and indeed their interface and signup process was excellent.  Also excellent is you get to filter out ads that you do not feel are appropriate for your website.  I had a huge list of hundreds of ads in front of me to go through and in the end I had disabled at least 75% of them for the following reasons.

Penis Pills

Penis growth products are an outright scam and prey on insecurities of men to make money and that same insecurity to guarantee that no one is likely to take them to court and say to a jury that they took a whole bottle of penis pills and still have a small penis.

Photoshopped Cum & Underage Girls

The hottest trend in the adult industry right now is “Ex Gf” sites.  Unfortunately, a large percentage of them are stealing photos of underage girls on social networks and photoshopping cum on their faces for their tours.  It is not child porn, but not only do I think that it is unethical to photoshop cum onto any persons face without approval, but extremely unethical to do it to children and then use them to sell access to porn.

Trademark Violations

I am a HUGE supporter of trademark and copyright reform.  But I certainly believe that no one should be able to slap someone else’s logo on their product to make a sale.  A popular theme for adult dating sites is to use the facebook logo or for porn tube sites to use the youtube logo.  I can not in my right mind allow those ads to run.  Especially since profiting from them could bring a C&D from a lawyer if the wrong person saw it.

What did this leave me with?  A handful of cam sites, shitty CGI porn and some ebooks on how to fuck any woman you want.

Really?  This is all the industry has to promote?  All of that crap is the only thing making money?

Being an adult site leaves your options quite limited as no ad network advertising mainstream products will let your ads run on an adult site. Where can I find good decent adult products and services who are looking for some exposure?  Are there any decent ad networks out there?
